Q&A

●Is Azumagoya Lodge a hut only for mountain climbers? We would like not only climbers but also tourists to enjoy staying at a mountain hut in the highlands. We would like customers from a wide range of markets, such as those who want to start mountain climbing, travelers who like photography and starry skies, women traveling alone, customers using day trip cafes and foreign tourists. In addition, Azumagoya Lodge is also an LGBTQ-friendly accommodation.

●Is Azumagoya Lodge open to the public in winter as an evacuation hut? Unlike public evacuation shelters, Azumagoya Lodge is a private facility and does not receive outsourcing or financial assistance as an evacuation hut from the government, so it is not open in winter. It is an accommodation facility as a private business.

●Can I go to Azumagoya Lodge by car? Yes. Although it is a mountain hut, you can come through the Bandai Azuma Skyline scenic driveway. There are about 5 parking lots near the lodge, but if they are full, please park your car at the Usagidaira parking lot. The skyline is also closed when the road surface is frozen, both at night and during the day. Arriving after sunset in autumn may not be possible to get up the mountain due to road closures.

●Do you work on mobile phones? The signal is very poor at our lodge due to the obstruction of the Okenuma Pond behind it. Docomo and au cell phone service is available near the Visitor Center, but not Softbank. We do not know the signal conditions for other mobile carriers.

●Which is better, phone reservation or online reservation? If you are able to operate a computer or smartphone, please make a reservation online. Reservations and inquiries made by phone are prone to mishearing, and reservation copies are not kept with the customer. Also, Azumagoya Lodge does not have a landline telephone. Please understand that when you call 0241-23-8757, your call is connected to Bandai Tours, a travel agency in Urabandai, and not to the Azumagoya Lodge site. Therefore, we may not be able to answer you immediately depending on the content of your call (What is the weather like there? Can I go now and just leave my luggage? etc.). Please note that we offer a discount for online reservations of 4 or more people.

●Is it possible to make a reservation at some online travel agents? We do not intend to participate in OTAs. Since you are looking at this official website, please make a reservation from this site.

●Do you provide meals? What time is it available? Dinner and breakfast can be prepared by reservation up to 3 days in advance. If less than 3 days, please bring you own foods with you. Dinner will be served from 18:00 and breakfast is served from 7:00 to 8:00. *Since the dining area and the dormitory are in the same space, it is not possible to change the serving time. *We do not currently provide lunch boxes. *There is a cassette gas stove for self-cooking, but there is no microwave or refrigerator.

●Can I drink draft beers at the mountain hut? Can I bring in alcoholic beverages? We sell craft beer at the bar from 5pm. We also offer shochu, sake, whiskey and cocktails. You can bring your drinks. There is no corkage fee, but all empty cans and bottles must be taken home. Also, the lights are turned off at 9:00 pm no matter how busy it is.

●Can you drink the water from the tap? Yes you can. The water in Japan is very safe and clean. There is no problem if you put it in a water bottle. The water of Azumagoya Lodge is soft water sourced from Okenuma Pond which is behind the lodge. Please let us know if you need hot water.

●Do I need to bring my own sleeping bag and sheets? Futons, duvets, pillows, blankets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and sheets are provided, so there is no need to bring your own bedding.

●Are there towels and toothbrushes? Towels are not provided, so please bring your own. Disposable toothbrushes are sold for 100 yen.

●Can I watch TV? No, you can't. No TV. No need TV.

●Is the toilet a western style? Aiming to improve the comfort of our customers, we received a subsidy from Fukushima City, so we remodeled the toilet to a Western-style simple flush toilet.

●Are there bathing facilities? Aiming to improve the comfort of our guests, we received a subsidy from Fukushima City, so we have installed a new shower room. There is only one place, so please adjust the time so that everyone can take turns using it. Also, for environmental protection, you cannot use your own shampoo and conditioner. Please use the provided full body shampoo located in the shower room. Please note that a hair dryer is not installed because it requires a large amount of electricity. Please bring your own towel.

●Is there a hot spring facility nearby? I wouldn't say it's close, but Washikura Onsen Kogen Ryokan, 19 minutes by car (13.8km) 10:00-15:00 Takayu Onsen public bath Attakayu, 25 minutes by car (15.7km) 9:00-21:00. Please contact each facility for inquiries such as business days.

●Is there anything I need to bring? Please bring an ID card with your residential address, regardless of whether you are a Japanese or not. We will record it with your contact phone number at check-in. If you are going to climb the mountain at the same time, please let us know your climbing schedule.

Penalties (related to Article 6, Paragraph 2) In the case of the number of contract applicants (up to 7 general people), On the day you receive a notice of contract cancellation, collect 0% 3 days before, 50% 2 days before, 70% the day before, and 100% for non-staying on the day. In the case of the number of contract applicants (group of 8 or more), 50% 10 days before, 70% 7days before, 90% the day before, 100% for non-staying on the day of contract cancellation. *If you have not paid in advance, please pay the cancellation fee via PayPal (we will send you an invoice by email). *In the event of an earthquake or volcanic disaster, or when the skyline is closed to traffic (when it is physically impossible to go to the mountain hut), the cancellation fee will be waived even if it is just before. Please understand that inclement weather (rain, snow, strong winds) can be predicted three days in advance, and that the customer will be charged a cancellation fee for illness, child fever, family misfortune, car breakdown, accidents on the road, etc., as long as it is within the penalty charge period.

●Are there lockers and valuables boxes? There are no lockers or places to store valuables. The luggage storage area for shared dormitories is the shelf in the sleeping area. Luggage other than valuables that is not necessary for mountain climbing can be kept while climbing, but it cannot be stored in a locked place.

●Can I send my luggage to the lodge in advance? No, you cannot. Neither the postman nor the delivery service will come to the lodge. Mail, including letters, cannot be sent to or from the lodge.

●Is there a place to remove mud from shoes? There is a water faucet outside, so please wash off the mud from your shoes.

●Can I park my motorcycle/bicycle under the eaves? There are no eaves to keep out the rain, no warehouses or garages to store bikes and bicycles. Sheets can be borrowed, but please note that they cannot be stored under the eaves or indoors.

●Can I pay cashless? We accept cashless payment such as credit card, transportation (Suica, etc.), Quick pay, etc. only when satellite communication connection is available. When communication is poor, you may be asked to pay in cash or wait for a longer period of time to pay your bill.

●Please tell me the maintenance status of mountain trails. We can inform you about the conditions of typical mountain trails and promenades in the area, but please contact the Jododaira Visitor Center for information on maintenance conditions such as grass cutting conditions and conditions after heavy rain.

●I'm going to Jododaira for the first time. Where would you recommend for easy trekking? We recommend walking around Mt Azumakofuji, Okenuma Pond, and Kamanuma Pond. If you want to put on a little more effort, climbing Mt. Issaikyo or Mt. Higashiazuma is the best way to level up. The most common itineraries for overnight guests are climbing Mt. Higashiazuma on the first day and climbing Mt. Issaikyo on the second day. Even if you are a beginner, you will be walking in nature at high altitudes, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and wear clothing that does not expose your skin even in summer.

●Please tell me the required time from Azumagoya Lodge to each target. 20 minutes one way to Jododaira Visitor Center, 1 hour and 40 minutes after going around Mt Azumakofuji and coming back, 2 hours and 40 minutes after going around Kamanuma Pond, 1 hour and 40 minutes one way to Mt. Issaikyo. 2 hours 10 minutes one way to Mt Higashiazuma. All times are required on foot and do not include breaks.

●What is the facility (building) next to Azumagoya Lodge? It was built as an administration building for the Jododaira campground, but currently the reception for the campsite is done at Azumagoya Lodge, so this administration building is not in use at all times. Please inquire at the visitor center if you are considering using the facility as a training site for school groups or for outdoor events. For example, I think it would be interesting to plan a customer-participation-type new product PR event sponsored by an outdoor equipment manufacturer using the campsite, administration building, and Azumagoya Lodge. Azumagoya Lodge would like to do our best to promote the use of campsites. Please let us know if you would like to visit the administration building.

●When is Azumagoya Lodge open? The lodge will be open from early May to early November in 2024, depending on snow conditions.

What are the measures to prevent infection with the new coronavirus? Alcohol disinfectant is installed at the entrance, sink, dining table, and toilet. The maximum number of people in the shared dormitory is limited to 10 people at the time of booking to avoid crowding. We try to separate the dining table for each group, but if there are many people traveling alone, they may share a table. We will leave it up to the customer to decide whether or not to wear a mask, but please understand that there will be a mix of people wearing masks and those not wearing masks at the institution for a while. Contactless cashless payment introduction test is underway.

●Can I stay here from Tokyo? This is a frequently asked question during the coronavirus pandemic. As long as we are operating in a situation where there is no request for closure or self-restraint from the government, we will not refuse accommodation by prefecture. The people in Fukushima suffered severe reputational damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake 2011. From that lesson, we do not judge people by prefectures. The important thing is that if you are not feeling well, such as having a fever or feeling tired, please refrain from staying at the lodge, regardless of whether it is inside or outside the prefecture. There is no clinic on the mountain, and the ambulance will not come soon.

●Do you have an AED? There is one AED in Azumagoya Lodge, which is lent by the Jododaira Visitor Center in relation to the campground reception work consignment. There is only one basic staff in the mountain hut. We would like to ask for your cooperation as we may need your help in an emergency.

●How many staff does Azumagoya Lodge run? Bandai Tours Genta Kanemitsu is the operations manager and Junichi Kurita is the resident staff at Azumagoya Lodge. Since Kanemitsu is usually stationed at BLG , an activity facility (camping, kayak rentals, Urabandai day tours, etc.) on the shore of Lake Sohara in Urabandai, there is usually only one staff member at Azumagoya Lodge. Please contact us if you are interested in helping out during the summer vacation or autumn foliage season. High school and university students, international students, and foreigners living in Japan are especially welcome. If you love the mountains, we would love to hear from you.
